Secure to You

SECURE TO YOU

My hands fasten to your glory,
My feet bind to your disgrace,
Like a shadow cast upon the sunlight,
My soul seizes your embrace,
Like a child clings unto her mother,
Like a wave holds fast  to the sea,
My heart joins secure to you,
On a tree!

My hands clutch the edge of darkness,
My feet walk the way of night,
As the sun slips into tomorrow,
My soul disappears from sight,
Like the last star before the morning,
As a fall flower turns to seed,
My heart dies secure to you,
On a tree!

My hands break the bread of morning,
My feet rise above the night,
Like a cup held up to the heavens,
My soul meets the Pascal Light,
Like a serpent lifted o’er the desert,
Like a pillar of fire above the sea,
My heart is raised secure to you,
On a tree!

A powerful and symbolic poem, masterfully exploring the paradoxical themes of glory and disgrace, darkness and light, death and resurrection, ultimately revealing the profound and redemptive connection between the speaker's heart and the sacrifice on the cross.
