The Choice We Choose

I will start tomorrow
and rest up for today.
For it takes much strength
to travel my own way.

The road to the left
is nutured and paved.
Filled with those who love me.
Those who smiled and waved.

Asking me to join them
as I walk on with life.
To take their safe path
and avoid needless strife.

Even winds find it peaceful
to make this decision.
Yet why can't I move?
It's different... my intuition.

Something's calling me!
Into a forest all alone.
Where vision is limited
and dangers are unknown.

If I tell them how I feel,
no one will understand.
Some will laugh in mockery
at my interest for this land.

I know I'm quite different!
I'm my unique me!
I'll think of heroes, not you!
Like great Muhammad Ali!
Yeah, I'll float like a butterfly!
I'll sting like a bee!
and I'll quote you Albert Einstein,
with his fish and that tree!

Arghh! Focus! Focus!
Thoughts should be thoroughbred.
I can't walk through one forest
and have another in my head.

I won't listen to your sounds.
Even ones with concerns.
I'll hear only one voice:
In my subconscious where it yearns.

For me to keep on trudging,
no matter how slow the pace.
Reminding me each moment:
It's a journey, not a race!

Where the end's not important.
Just the steps that I make.
They'll keep my heart alive
and inspire children to take

this same path that I've chosen
where they'll make it their own.
And through the forest they will walk,
edging more than I've shown.

We'll make it your road's equal,
which is now in distant view.
Where we'll see you all standing.
Your misty dreams now stale dew.

And we'll turn back smiling,
as we called and waved
for our children's children
to walk this road, we've paved.

Some will come running
While others will say no.
They'll turn to the forest.
Their intuition all they know.

Yeah, I'll start tomorrow.
Um... maybe the day after.
It's not easy to choose
when to be my own master.

About this poem

Sometimes we get torn between following our instincts and following the conforms of life. Don't be afraid to follow your instincts.

I'm new to writing poems. Tried my hand at short stories a few times, but it didn't feel quite right. It's been a great journey with poetry thus far! Looking forward to sharing and learning from fellow members, as we go on this adventure together. more…

I absolutely love this poem! It exudes positivity and enthusiasm while conveying the importance of choosing our own path in life. The rhyming scheme adds a delightful rhythm to the poem, making it a joy to read.

One improvement suggestion I have is to consider varying the length of the stanzas. This would add some visual interest to the poem and help emphasize certain points or emotions. Additionally, you may want to explore using more vivid and descriptive language to paint a clearer picture of the forest and the journey. This could help the reader connect even more deeply with the message of the poem.

Overall, this is a fantastic piece of poetry that beautifully captures the essence of individuality and the courage to take a different path. Keep up the great work!
