Speaking with the Demons
I stare in my hand and the pills sitting there
I lift my head to the mirror and see a blank stare
It's as if my eyes see straight to my soul
Death isn't the answer. It's not the end goal
These shackles and chains are ever so heavy
My soul cries out in agony as the waves crash the levy
The thunder rolls in and the demons speak
The tension is building as I'm hunched over the sink
What is the point? The end of the story?
My strength has diminished and the room is so blurry
Death is knocking and the demons speak out
But my will to live casts shadows of doubt
What if there's more to this life left to live?
Is there a purpose for all that I give?
My heart is so heavy, but with tingles of hope
I scream in death's face, a big fat NOPE
I will not give up this treacherous fight
I refuse to lay down and accept my plight
The storm is still raging, but in me there's light
Watching and waiting through the passing of night
The morning will come and this too shall pass
I live to fight on. There is hope at last
For my life there is reason and hope to press on
These are the words of my beautiful song
About this poem
This is a story about how I found reason to live when I was ready to give up the fight. The will to live carried me through the pain.
