(finding love in one’s old age)
In the shadow of your finely chiseled face
All others fade in dim of dwindling light
My grey eyes gaze upon your lips impatiently
For you alone, are worthy of my sight
A wood thrush sings among the cawing crows
Bright notes of love, infuse my weary mind —
Smooth the jagged edges of this ancient heart!
Make one of two, let two combine
Time has passed, but steadfast drew you to my side
A sweeter, nobler love could never be
Our union, much too late an infant child to bear —
But you rebirthed a grateful child in me
About this poem
I was thinking about couples, who in their old age, find each other to love. I imagined what that experience may feel like, and wrote this poem.
