Ace In The Hole

Jeremiah Drew 1985 (Grand Prairie Tx)

We never plan for the future,
Who knew we would have computers,
My dad was strict with the gift of gab,
One day he shared some wisdom he had,
Always have a ace in the hole,
At 6 years old I didn't know,
He said I would figure it out when I get older,
Around 18 I was bolder,
Once I got the cold shoulder,
Always have your ace in the hole made sense,
Ridding twiddling my thumbs on the fence,
Lead to an epiphany to understand what he meant,
A plan of action to back up a reaction,
I solved the riddle with satisfaction,
The riddle mystery solved,
Made the world around me revolve,
It seemed I unlocked an ancient secret,
I thought what a waste to not to keep it,
Plans are know in place incase I go off the deep end.
As my wisdom grows my dad was smart,
But to only leave me with one part,
Passion that leads with the heart,
And plans to have when you depart.
You can lead a dog to eat,
It's up to you how you feast,
Ultimately I just want peace.

About this poem

My dad told me since 5yrs old, " hey boy there's two things you need to know in life". I said, what's that daddy. He said, " Hooray for me and fuck you and always have your ace in the hole.
