Darwinian Theory

The hands of the clock move twice as fast
as the vigorous beats of my heart
Prodigies swarm all around me
Making me feel strange in my own skin
Will the view in my mirror ever be enough?

My star sign calls for a total balance
Does it not know that the fine line
between use and disuse is made of sand?
One quick blow and your worth vanishes
Is this a rat race or just modern day life?

I spray paint my dreams onto a wall
And smile as the rain loots it away
Maybe the air around me is to blame
where contentment and pride are synonyms
Are we fighting others or ourselves?

Every sip of comfort tainted with rue
Dragging my feet forward consistently
just to steal a sight of the finish line
while medals have already adorned necks
Is it nothing but the theory of natural selection?

About this poem

The modern world is filled with stains of comparison and scars of insecurity. It is nearly impossible for one to be content with themselves and this poem explores that competitive nature of human beings.
