Petals for (m:M)y Love

Petals for (m/M)y Love

“April showers, May flowers”
Except now it’s May, and there are no flowers.
My “showers” overpowers
And I mourn for what should be ours

A red rose buried in soil
And the bugs around the grave start to coil
As if they’re dying too

In February you gave me baby’s breath
You said our love would never face death
I let the flower run its course, then planted its seed
But now the only thing that grows is butterfly weed

Purple hyacinth’s all around your burial
And I remember when I attended your funeral
What a sorrowful day

A couple years later and it’s July
I feel as if I’ve been purified
My mind and soul no longer wage a war
And I walk to the garden, a part of me feeling restored
I drop to my knees and dig up some dirt
And I plant the seed of a lavender

About this poem

This poem is about losing a significant other, but then eventually healing. When I think of afterlife, I believe that we all are just reabsorbed into the world, hence the nature aspect of this poem.

I’ve always loved writing, but I’ve recently fallen in love with poetry- granted that I’m not that great at it. The fact that only people who are willing to listen can understand poetry is absolutely beautiful to me. I strive everyday to become better at poetry and writing in general, and I hope to one day make a name for myself through it. more…
