Fostering saves

At the crossroads I sit
Ready for what's to come
Tired, hungry and cold
Afraid and unwanted, I've been found

For a little while I will be yours
You will show me so much
I will sleep without worry
We have built a bond, a meaningful trust

My ears start to perk,
Tail wags,  that took a while
eyes start to shine
But it's difficult for you to smile

You know what's next
Its the hardest part
With tears in your eyes
You let me go, no regrets

Your heart will break
So mine never will
Our short time is over
But you will foster again still

 I
am the bridge of what was and what's to b
the pathway to your new life
At first sight, my heart broke
Matted ,hungry, sore and lonely
Unwanted and afraid to love.

For a little time you will be mine
I will stroke you with a kind hand
And love you like my own
I will make you whole again

And now comes the hard part
When you are well and your eyes shine,
tail wagging, belly full

It will break my heart I know
Your soul has healed
I will let you go...not without a tear
 But with no regrets
