LAST PRAYER

Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)

LAST PRAYER

When I bow my head
Will it be the last time?
What was it that I said?
Did I thank you this last time?
When it all just fades away
Tell me what words I pray.

When I spoke in Jesus name
Did it change the world?
Or was I playing church's game
Giving swines my pearl
If it was my last prayer
Jesus where you there?

We say we cry to Your Throne
But just what do we cry?
Are You there? Are we alone?
Or is our faith a lie?
Tell me Jesus, when I called to You
Was I ever being true?

If this is the last time on my knees
May it be as sincere as my first prayer
Oh Father hear my desperate pleas
Jesus will you meet me there?
I bow my head and close my eyes
Father hear my desperate cries

May I pray my final prayer
Every day I draw breath
So that my God meets me there
In my life, and at my death
Because I know that one day I'm
Bowing my head a final time

In Jesus name
AMEN

About this poem

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7
