Never Broken

Take my breath away, force it out with all that you are
Hold onto me with the strength I could never have
Allow me to lean into you for my legs are weak
How could I possibly stand on my own
I’ve been cut too deeply and for far too long
Slashed down to be nothing but a void of a human
Left out for the puppet master to pull the strings

Could it be more than a wish for my legs to hold any stability
A simple idea… a mere thought of wanting more
With this fear bubbling from deep within my gut
Pleading with my own mind to keep my flesh safe
Already it’s pale and stretched too thin barely able to hold its innards
Peeling at the seams, the glue I’m using no longer working

Warm sun giving me hope of something better, something more
Forced to make choices, ones solely for my own benefit
Change is impossible, so how can I be any different
Your hand entwined with mine, legs unstable as I move myself forward
Each step I take stitching up the wounds left behind
Never to be perfect again, simply reminders of how far I’ve come

Once only a version of a broken person staring back
Clear vision showing what you’ve seen from the start
Bright green eyes, holding everything life has to offer
Take my breath away, force it out with all that you are
So I can inhale all that we are
