Moving On

Neither here nor there
in between lives, in between cities
the gentle rocking of the train
seems at odds with the fluster
of the spectral display
streaking past the window
like a Renoir painting

Leaving you, leaving my life
the passing of our journey together
leaves me smudged and bruised
like the mortal daylight at the window
suspended between was and will be
belonging to neither one

As the eyelid of darkness
flutters over the earth
squeezing the life from the sky
endings become beginnings
and certainty becomes fear
as blackness hurtles to earth
like a jailers door
