echoes of a fading dream

shivashis adhikari 2008 (Kathmandu)

it wasn’t her fault, it was mine all along,
falling for feelings that weren't meant to be,
chasing a fantasy, blind to the signs--
just a fool in love with what i wanted to see.

i sculpted her image with shadows and light,
painted her laughter on walls of my mind,
a gallery of moments that glittered too bright,
lost in illusions i stubbornly lined.

she was a flicker, a flame in the dark,
a sonnet unfinished, a song never sung,
and i was the poet, entranced by the spark,
writing the verses with hope on my tongue.

now the moon hangs low like a heavy old friend,
its quiet reflection spills into the night,
i sift through the silence, begin to amend,
wondering softly if i got it right.

it wasn’t her fault, i was chasing a dream,
building a palace of what couldn’t be,
but maybe in time, i’ll unravel the seam,
and find my way back to the truth within me.

This is quite good and makes me think of this, " It is interesting that we fall in love and blame the person is being bad if they do not return our love as if they were supposed to love s back." Love cannot be forced and people are free to give it to whoever they choose.
Your poem is of something built that was never there. The lines have a good flow and the writing of them is good and very poetic. This poem is a pleasure to read for the story it tells among other things.
