Pararreo

Mornings with no sunshine,
dawn fades the colors everywhere.
Staring at the oblivion,
I wish I'm just a part of that nothingness.

I was in that corner,
sinking in the sofa,
tears at bay,
heart drowning.

Then you're suddenly just there.
Leaning your head in the window,
your fur touching my head,
paws stepping down my anxiousness.

You're so little, just my neck to head.
Yet how can your warmth be too big?
It embraced me whole.
It was the comfort I never thought I needed.

I sailed myself into the sea, so lost to it.
Mesmerized- fascinated.
I couldn't help touching its surface.
So dark, like a bottomless abyss.

As I readied myself to drown,
you flashed your light in my way.
Guiding; creating a path.
Reminding me to anchor myself to the shore.

I often found myself wanting to be lost;
to travel the unknown, and be part of it.
Then I'd remember you're waiting,
wagging your tail as I come close at the door.

Then one day, as I returned home,
I can't see your black fur.
It gave me chills as I stayed rooted in place.
Watching you in the corner, barely breathing.
