Faint Memories

Faint Memories

I held it close to my heart,
So there it stays, never left
Then I tried to let it go,
But there it stays and there it cleft.

What is going on in my mind?
And why do I hold it shut tight.
Why is my brain filled by a certain fright?
And why do I feel light.

A blink I saw shadows on the wall,
Another I hear yelling and scowls,
I close my lids, shiny droplets fall,
Then I wake up and try to remember it all.

What was it that I’ve come across?
Was it a memory in my loss?
Was I there to witness it all?
Or was it just the lucid dreams I have in fall?

The sobbing sounds so real,
The voices that never fail to appeal,
I tried forgetting, avoid getting ill,
I tried hiding, now it seems surreal.

I was given unnecessary weight,
A vain job that I would forfeit,
And if only it wasn’t for her, I’d bail,
And If only it wasn’t for her, I’d fail.

About this poem

It is about a child of a broken home, being there to witness her parents breaking apart since a young age. A relatable story to many, but this poem explains it in depth. How everything that happened, feels like a dream in her memory. She tries to let it go, but the faint vision of those scenes keep coming back. She felt as if it was a burden to witness them, as if it was her duty to help her mom at the age of 5. So at last, everything felt so far and overwhelming.
