Echoes of Lust

Gineace 2007 (Cape Town)

I want to believe you, I do,
But the evidence is against you.
You only love the girl in the picture, you do,
And the evidence is in your eyes filled with lust and not love in your heart.

I tried to see the soul within,
But your gaze never reached past the skin.

Listening to your flesh is a sin that I will never win.
For every whisper from your lips hides the truth beneath the kiss.

Your lips linger, and your hands eager, who is in for the win?
But passion fades when hearts don't meet, and empty love knows no defeat.

Light and darkness, North and South, sunrise and sunset don't mix and will never meet.
Defeated, it's an everyday cycle.

And in that dance of shadowed grace,
We chase a love that can't embrace.

Race that is only surface deep,
You think you got an Ace when I can see through your lace, a place of disgrace.

You wear your charm like a masquerade,
But I see the truth beneath the facade you've made.

There is no love here, only lust here that tries to justify itself.
You love the photo, not the story behind the photo.

Each click captures beauty, yet fails to reveal,
The depth of the heart, the scars that we conceal.

You need to heal; don't steal love.
Embrace the beauty by loving the story.
Then click, click, it reveals.
