Untitled

You came to me like a stranger
eyes averted, head turned
staring into the cold distance
so that my joy fell as dust.
My kiss brushed against your skin
and I greeted you gently
as a prayer whispered in a tomb,
you left the echo for response.
I took your hands in my own
limp and cold like another’s
your acid tears on the harsh stone
wash away the glamour of our love
and mark you as one who seems not to know me,
you, who now punish me for my hopes.
