Two Paper Cups and a String

I’m not quiet because I have nothing to say.
Maybe I like the sound your heart makes,
In the dead silence of our mouths,
Between two paper cups,
And a string that will never be too long.

Thanks for the clarifying explanation about your poem. I thought as much that it was about a child’s imagined ‘telephone’ conversation, but wasn’t sure.
My child’s imagined telephone conversation, preceding yours, in the generation of the 1940s in the colonial Caribbean used two empty cans attached to a fairly long twine. It was lots of fun!

I'm confused with the ending. But the poem sounds lovely.

When we were kids we’d play telephone with paper cups and a string.

I need to tell you I tried looking you up on Instagram and it says you don't exist.
I'm not sure this poem is complete. May I ask for clarification?

John, between the cup and the lip there is oft much of a slip; strings or no strings attached. Welcome to this poetry website!
