Une Autre Vie

Une Autre Vie

Another life is what exists now after you
As I come out from your shadow
In the back of a movie theater
Where memories play
On screens that mirror before
An old music soundtrack
Casts out of tune melodies
On an ancient piano
So hard to hold back
The haunting hush
Flooding down my face.

Its hard to step across where you've been
The place you slept your last
No one gives me permission to cry
They send me cold notices
Demanding payment
After you have disappeared
“Sorry for your loss” turns into
“Sorry I'm too busy”
Your passing becomes
A bad commercial break
In the middle of their movie.

My sisters white wash their disrespect
Pretending to play remembrance
When they couldn't be bothered
To spend a dime of time
You invested giving them birth
The cow patties piled so high
You needed wings to fly above it
I gave you what they refused
Spelling love for you with my hands
Right up to the chest compressions
Not enough to equal
The magic your life made of mine.
