In the Garden of Shadows
In the garden of shadows, where silence resides,
Beneath the thick canopy where sunlight hides,
The roses grow dark, with petals like ink,
And the lilies lie pale on the midnight brink.
A chill in the air, a whisper, a sigh,
As leaves drift down like a muted cry;
The trees hold secrets, twisted and deep,
Guarding the memories lost in sleep.
A marble bench, cold under hand,
Where lovers once sat, heart to heart, hand in hand,
Now dust gathers thick where laughter died,
In the garden of shadows where echoes abide.
Moonlight slips through the tangled leaves,
Casting webs of silver, glistening sheaves,
As stars blink out, one by one,
And shadows blend till night is done.
Here, in the quiet, forgotten, alone,
Where light dares not venture, where ivy has grown,
Dreams are entwined with sorrow and song,
In the garden of shadows, where they belong.
About this poem
"In the Garden of Shadows" explores a haunting and ethereal space where memories, whispers, and secrets dwell. Shantanu Singh paints a vivid, almost ghostly scene, where the garden becomes a symbol of forgotten love, lost dreams, and the quiet melancholy that lingers in places touched by sorrow. With imagery of dark roses, pale lilies, and moonlit webs, the poem captures a timeless beauty woven with themes of loneliness and remembrance. The marble bench and silent trees evoke a feeling of abandonment, as if life and love once flourished here but have since been overtaken by shadow and silence. Singh’s words invite readers into a place of introspection, where the beauty of sorrow and the depth of forgotten moments coalesce, creating a contemplative tribute to memory and solitude. more »
