Unspoken Distance

She’s not afraid to be alone,
In the quiet, she’s fully her own.
Her thoughts, her space, her calm, her peace
A life where every worry can cease.

But when he’s near, the stillness breaks,
The energy shifts, the silence shakes.
She’s lost in the noise of constant need,
A place where her soul can’t breathe.

It’s not about being lonely, or lost,
But about the toll this love has cost.
She smiles, she stays, though it feels too loud,
Wishing for silence, away from the crowd.

“Maybe it’s a test,” they say with care,
But how do you fight for something so rare?
When the heart knows it’s not the right place,
And solitude feels like an embrace.

She stays not out of fear, but habit’s pull,
Fighting a tide that leaves her soul dull.
She could walk away, but still she stays,
Wondering why she hasn’t left yet, anyway.

Is it love? Or a pattern she’s learned?
Fighting for something she never earned?
She needs no one, not out of pride,
But because it’s where her heart can hide.

So why keep fighting for what’s not hers,
When peace is the answer, not more words?
She’ll find the strength to say goodbye,
And reclaim her solitude, under her sky.

Your poem poses some interesting questions about why people stay in relationships as long as they do when they’re not ideal. I would imagine in some cases opposites attract, but making the relationship work is another story. Nice thought provoking piece.

That’s such a great point ,sometimes attraction and compatibility are two very different things. I’m glad the poem made you reflect on that. Thanks so much for reading and sharing your thoughts.
