Celle que Pyrrhe et le Mars de Libye
N'ont su dompter, cette brave cité
Qui d'un courage au mal exercité
Soutint le choc de la commune envie,

Tant que sa nef par tant d'ondes ravie
Eut contre soi tout le monde incité,
On n'a point vu le roc d'adversité
Rompre sa course heureusement suivie :

Mais défaillant l'objet de sa vertu,
Son pouvoir s'est de lui-même abattu,
Comme celui que le cruel orage

A longuement gardé de faire abord,
Si trop grand vent le chasse sur le port,
Dessus le port se voit faire naufrage.
