Alone

I've been too harsh on myself,
Each wound carves deeper into my heart,
Guilt gnaws at me, never departs.
I must learn—not all can be calmed,
I must see—not all can be won.
My strength has its end.

Years have passed, yet I still bleed,
This weariness is clear to see.
But tell me now—what is it for?
I’ve forgotten how to cry,
With no one left to lean upon.
My body moves, yet holds no soul,
So tell me now—what is it for?

I've punished myself too often,
For the sins of others, not my own.
Carrying burdens meant to be shared,
Believing all must rest on me.

Still pretending to stand so tall,
Yet here I am,
Alone.
