I used to chase her
'round the garden
just to see exhilaration
in her perfect face
energetic
atheletic
I was the tortoise in the race
all akward and ugly
ambling aimlessly
at a snail's pace
the pursuit was a bedtime story
I never deserved
such an unusual glory
out of pity
she let me win
lain in the poppies
to learn of sin
when I cross over
the finish line
there's still nothing
to show for
I shrivel back
retract
into this hole of mine
hibernate
in a dream state
for all time
