Death and Me

"Why are you happy?" a man said to me,
So odiously, unrighteously,
"If death may come, how can you be?"

My mind had read:
"If there is no way to be deader than dead,
then I know not why this must be said,
but lest the cruel can reign forever,
and lest our vital balance sever,
life is a machine, and death the lever."

Once again mankind spoke to me,
with words of hatred and jealousy,
through violence and war, only I can see,
the peace that lies in death and me
