The Mossy Rock and the Avocado Seed

We came to rest
on a mossy rock
old as
the island itself
it was cool
and smooth
like a polished
worn shoe

We spread our towels
and prepared for our feast
ham, bologna, cheese, dijon
everything a hiker
could want
and more..

We chatted lightly
and laughed
as we tossed
an avocado seed
How I smiled
when the thought
passed through
my head

It was a beautiful day
much
like a dream
and I couldn't help
but to notice
how
your skin reflected
green
from the canopy
your hair
danced
with the
sunlight
through
the breeze...

and how
I could
have stayed
there
with you
on that
mossy rock

until the
avocado seed
matured
into a tree.
