This heartache should never happen to anyone, especially our kids!
Our niece came up to us one day at the age of ten.
She asked us a question that floored us back then.
She asked if she could ever be considered a virgin after she'd been raped.
I tried so hard not to cry, For sure my mouth should have been taped!
We let it sink in for a moment, and wondered where to begin.
We started off by saying, it was not by her choice, she didn't sin.
Then she asked another, why was she was so impure.
These questions were almost more than we could endure.
All this pain and heartache, reeling in my mind.
I really wanted to go out, this sick b*st*rd to find.
The story only gets more gruesome from here I'm afraid.
For she was four years old, that was the price she paid.
There were accounts of it happening to her when she was even smaller yet.
How could a person do something that vile and disgusting, it gets me upset.
We told her that because she had no choice in what had been done.
She could be proud of herself for surviving, and consider herself one.
We said we were sorry, that no one should go through that, especially a kid.
We got her counseling, all the while thinking how could he do what he did.
Leaving her innocence shattered all over the place.
To leave her hiding and feeling like a disgrace.
It was a hard road to tow.
As I'm sure some of you know.
She grew up to be an intelligent, smart, beautiful girl.
But how she started out in life, causes my anger to swirl.
They never had to pay for what they did.
Because you heal up quickly as a kid.
We taught her to love, to set her soul free.
And then Sun of a gun, if it didn't happen to me.
The cycle of types of abuse, keep going round and round.
Until someone's strong enough to break it, then peace can be found.
