The Dirtsider and the Delphine

It’s a quiet afternoon.

Peaceful so far, no more fights.

I’ve been staring here since noon,

Seeing many kinds of lights

Under many a grey moon,

Just thinking through days and nights.

Building whole worlds in silence,

Putting breaths in everyone,

Pausing a bit of cadence

To thank there wasn’t that one.

Her light mind shallow and dense,

She’ll be here when today’s done.

Leave, be away, dirtsider.

Let me think, dear outsider.

Don’t be such a loud bother.

Let the poet dream today

If I cannot make a song.

Let Earth roll to a new day

And don’t do anything wrong.

Let life be happy and gay.

Have the will to dance along.
