After the rain
In those dark clouds
Came winter -
No sunshine
No rainbow glow:
Wind howling
Like banshees-
Icy blasts of snow-
Smattering at windows
Like bits of sand.
Not quiet,
Soft, white drifts

After a week of whitecaps
The lake is smooth, glistening like glass
Reflecting the day.
Boat is purring in anticipation;
Driver has hand ready on the throttle.
In the water, subtle anticipatory excitement.
