Day of Pentecost
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
This Jesus that God had raised,
And that all of us to witness;
To whom we worshipped and praised,
Gaining spiritual fitness.
Exalted on the right hand,
From the Father had received;
Who had given to command,
His Spirit to who believed.
He has poured out His promise,
As from the Holy Spirit,
Is giving of His justice,
To all those with good merit.
David did not ascend,
Upward into the Heaven;
Rather for Christ to defend,
Righteousness that is given.
As His foes as His footstool,
That God has made Him as Lord;
And Jesus as Christ to rule,
Who is humbled and adored.
To hear it cuts to the heart,
Wondering what we shall do;
Being baptized to impart,
While repenting to pursue.
Each one of you in His name,
As you will receive the gift;
Of His Spirit to proclaim,
A forgiveness to uplift.
For the promise is for you,
To all that are near and far;
As long as you remain true,
You will be His shining star.
To bear witness that He bore,
Will continue to exhort;
Eternal life to assure,
In Christ to proceed support.
So those who receive His Word,
Were added to all the souls;
And are baptized what they heard,
Allows God at the controls
