My Hymn

As for my life I make no excuse
Smoking and drinking, my body abused
But as for my soul, I give to the Lord
The one that saved me and I adore

Christ has granted me the will to go on
I do so in praise for Him within this song
The words I write they flow from Him
And settle into this quaint little hymn

Father, I beg of thee forgive my trespass
Your will I beseech thee, over me cast
And give me the courage to continue to write
Though there are some with contempt and spite

You, dear Lord, are my shield and sword
Though this body is wrecked and sore
Your word, gracious Lord, I lean on each day
I pray that I never turn or sway
