The Nature of the Resurrection
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
What is sown is perishable,
So is awakened of the dead;
What is raised is cherishable,
That has been asleep in their bed.
It has been sown with dishonor,
And raised in glory from weakness;
With the power of a fawner,
Having an outlook of bleakness.
Body sowed as a natural one,
But one raised up as spiritual;
In being a daughter or son,
Living a life that is noble.
Adam was the first living man,
The new Adam living spirit;
Since the first Adam had no plan,
And had a downfall in merit.
The spiritual does not come first,
For the first man comes from the earth;
From the dust the desires thirst,
Ever since God had given him birth.
The second man came from Heaven,
Who is Jesus Christ our Lord;
Eternal life He has given,
To everyone in one accord.
As was the man who came from dust,
As to from death he will return;
For being controlled by his lust,
Eternal life he did not earn.
Just as in his image are born,
The image of the man of dust;
A spiritual mind to sojourn,
That in Heaven puts our trust.
