My Teacher

She taught me how to sing
To lift my voice in joy and praise.
She showed me how to live my life,
As she taught me her unselfish ways.

She taught me to say my prayers,
And thank God for all He has done.
For giving me all that I have,
And for giving the world His Son.

She taught me morals and integrity,
And to hold my head up high.
She gave me her every confidence,
And made me feel as if I could fly.

She taught me her old sayings,
Respect is what you owe, Love is what you give.
Now I use these precious words
As the guidelines for which I live.

I now teach my children the same
But her lessons were like no other.
And I say my prayers each and every night,
Thanking God for my teacher--my mother.
