What My Dad Taught Me

I got his eyes and maybe his stubborn mind
I learned that expectations are just that of others and I may never do it right, you gotta
work hard for the things you want in life and when you’re passionate about something you don’t go down without a fight

He’s got broad shoulders and is only growing older, you can see it in his eyes. He didn’t have an easy life and no real great teachers but he gave his best try, he’s bold with words and doesn’t sugar coat them but maybe that’s how he learned. He’s not real sensitive but believe he does have a soft side and maybe I didn’t always see it when I was younger to really understand that he was preparing me for real life

I didn’t get his broad shoulders and I’m pretty sensitive but I learned how to carry the weight of life and not take every insult to heart, I learned compassion and empathy are 2 things you wanna see and the world can be ugly but it can also be real lovely and to have an open mind , because the world keeps evolving but ya gotta stick to your values and really live a true life

Be honest and respect your elders, pull the chair out for your mother, protect what you love and hold on tight like a glove because in a blink it could be over, life is short so make it count, some things you can go without, provide what ya need and don’t forget to rest your feet because tomorrow is another day

Try your best don’t give up, hang out with who love and be the best you that you can be And don’t forget integrity and respect and you’ll do fine in this life because that’s what my daddy taught me
