The Enigma of Hell
As I left the warmth and bliss
Of the earth, its trees and soil
Felt a warm and burning kiss
Of the boiling drum of oil
I jumped to see what I had become
Opened my eyes to see where I'd come
Oh the mighty brought me down,
There's Hades with his shining crown.
Look at the fields of Asphodel,
Millions of souls stand in this hell,
Empty faces, in an illusion
Of their life, their own delusion.
Cloaks of pain, the wings of hate,
There they stand, the sisters of fate,
Waiting for me, to take a step,
They just want to crush my neck.
A whole new world, full of pain,
Torture, suffering, and disdain,
They crush the souls with all their might,
And make them suffer day and night.
Fields of punishment are now my home,
My suffering will sure be long,
Excruciating pain, through my bones
Piercing me with Stygian stones
Oh but a light that shines so bright,
There's Elysium in all its might,
All the caring and all the kind,
Elysium is the home they find.
"There's my son! He made it through!"
Wearing a tunic of gold and blue,
Hope he finds for what he yearned,
Praise to all the blessings he earned.
There's a confusion on his face,
Which has now become disgrace,
That's not where he wanted to be,
Father's face, he wanted to see.
"Oh my son!", I cried and cried,
But my words could not suffice,
Silence, silence, all around,
As I fell down into the ground.
Never ending void, where I fell,
Is there a place, deeper than hell?
Falling down, and calling out,
But I can't talk, and I can't shout.
As I left the warmth and bliss
Of the earth, its trees and soil
Felt a warm and burning kiss
Of the boiling drum of oil.
About this poem
This poem is part of an anthology that I'm working on. It is about the point where a man reaches the mythological Hell, or the Underworld, he looks around to see the different outlooks of death, where some enjoy the pleasures of Elysium, while others are tortured in the Fields of punishment. The poem also signifies the true meaning of suffering and torture, it is not equivalent to physical pain, but it differs for every being, everyone has their own fears, and in hell, those fears are exploited for all eternity. more »
