Lies He told me

Octavia Nath 1995 (Washington DC)

He told me lies that I could've denied,

I felt use and emotional abuse

From him, I thought he love me, but he just

wanted the effects of the drugs. I let him

get in the way of me being who I am, but

he was a wrecking ball, a mess but really I

was stressing knowing this isn't what I

wanted just from a relationship, but a quiet

place that sense of humor that you know

has goals for himself. He gave me hell,

like Boling water on a hot stove top. He

was a simple, but fine man with muscles

and a beautiful smile

About this poem

This poem explores the complex emotions and experiences of a person who has been involved in a tumultuous and ultimately disappointing relationship. The speaker expresses feelings of being used and emotionally abused by their partner, who is portrayed as someone who prioritizes their own desires, particularly drug use, over the relationship. The speaker laments the impact this relationship had on their sense of self and their goals, as well as the distress and confusion caused by the lies and unfulfilled promises of the partner. The speaker also critiques the physical and emotional shortcomings of the partner, pointing out the initial allure but subsequent disappointment. There is a sense of disappointment and frustration at the partner's failure to live up to expectations, particularly in terms of intimacy and commitment. The speaker expresses a desire for honesty and truth, and ultimately rejects the partner's attempts to deceive and manipulate. Despite the anger and hurt
