The Poet

The Poet

Lest he to sate its human trait,
Falls nigh upon the eyes --
The Poet cites a morning plight,
Invites the dawn to rise.

Parable be but withered dust
Should word evoke no feel --
The psalmist brings, as if the Spring,
A warmth...

I Shall Not Be Small (5 syllable meter)

When he was a boy,
Life was dramatic --
He learned to be small
Safe in the attic.

Invisible child,
As slight as his word,
Made to be silent,
A shadow unheard.

Talk was restricted,
Speaking forbidden --
He dared not a peep,
His...

Soldier

Redemption comes and goes for the broken,
A life we lived of wounds unspoken.
We’ve spilled our blood for another man’s glory.
Now we live to tell our story.

In the end what was it for?
We gave ourselves for another man’s war.
The walls we...

Mortally Wounded: A Soldier's Tale

Imagine the glory of a love so mighty as
to inspire the hopeless to suffer the agony
of one more breath.

Mortally Wounded; A Soldier's Tale

He is bloody, fading and shattered,
Disabled, alone by himself --
His body's been brutally...

PTSD - The Soldier and the Bottle

Sands of time have brought us down
For blood we’ve spilled upon the ground
Promises were given and lies were told
Was the bill of goods that we were sold

They pin their medals and offer us pride
But the ones who lived are the ones who...

I've written of depression in the past as well. It's a hard pill to swallow but one that many must contend with. This is a great outpouring and hopefully as medicinal for you as those of us who needed to read it. You have a purpose and this might just be it. Great job, Kristen.

Beautiful poem and so sentimental. I don't have kids but have always held a special place in my heart for little girls. They are precious. Great work, my friend.

This is simply too well written, creative and poetic to not get my vote. I am a staunch stickler for good writing. This is that and more. I wish whoever wrote this masterpiece the very best...so long as it doesn't beat mine. ;-) Best of luck, fellow poet.

Okay, whose ass do I need to kick for hurting my buddy? This one is gut-wrenching, and I hope it's fictional or, if not, a past occurrence. It's amazing to see you writing again and sharing your heart. Are you okay?

Beautifully written piece and yet to true and bittersweet in its truth. You've described the current state of America as well as many others. It must end. It will end. Thank you for sharing your gift, Abby.

Easy 5 stars. Funny thing too because just yesterday I watched a deep interview with Terry Crews. He opened up about this very topic. This was an excellent write and read, Joe. Thank you for sharing your work.

Crews interview if interested. - https://youtu.be/fJjsbgk6e0A?si=SqzL3ebN9owVwfmo

Hence, what is the true meaning of success we must ponder? This is the story of each of us to our own relative degree via each corresponding experience each of us perceives. Is there truly a mountain peak or is true wisdom an everlasting venture toward some greater likening no human could possibly fathom? It appears the truest of wisdoms are gathered through the fires of journeying itself. There can be no peak for those forever venturing to unearth the truth of our purpose. Perhaps Helen Keller said it best when she said, "I know there is eternity for inside me are eternal longings." - The very thought brings me humbly to tears. Thank you for sharing this amazing piece, Niranjan.
