GOOD NIGHT AND SWEET DREAMS
mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)
When I was young, I was never on the same page. I wanted to know how things worked and understand why, and that made me hate and made my poor mama cry, bless her heart.
I am like that bear that you do not dare poke. I may be quiet, but you never heard me speak. You may laugh, but to me, you are the joke. I am everything I was meant to be: the rough sea.
Here I sit cold to the bone, waiting and watching who at glass houses will throw stones. However, I will stand still like an ancient statue because my ancestors told me, child t, we know some moments will be hard like a stone, but you need to find it within yourself to be brave, rise, resist, rebel, do not be soft-spoken for you have awoken to pick up your voice from the bottom of your belly and give that so sweet freedom yell.
My lover told me while lying next to me in bed, she said do not listen to those voices in your head because there is no longer a need for you to be cold. You got me to hold, so refuse from your troubles to runaway. You were born to stand up, raise your fist, and fight. Now go to sleep because you are a natural man goodnight.
