Analysis of Mirror Image

Robert Catron 1963 (Kansas)

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered what people see,
I really must confess to you - this has happened to me.
Do they see my heart - even as big as I'm told it is,
Or do they see me clearer after a drink of a slow gin fizz?
Can they see this romantic for all I try to be,
Or do they just see my faults when they look at me?
Do they know how much I care - can they see deep inside,
Or do they just judge me for what's visible on the outside?
Can they see I feel abandoned nearly almost everyday,
Or not even give me a second thought - and just simply walk away?
If they looked into my eyes would they see my loving heart,
Or just take advantage of my kindness and tear me all apart?
Would they make love to me from the night until the next day,
Or just simply tease me with all of the games that some women play?
Would they see that I'm patient, loving, and that I care,
Or would they simply look and see my dark brown hair?
Would you know I've missed you since you went away,
For me it's always cloudy even on a sunny day.
I guess I've given up on what my looks could be,
It doesn't really matter anymore - like your gonna look at me.
What's left of me is broken - I slowly just fell apart,
Does anyone out there have the glue to fix a broken heart?
I didn't use to be this way - I once was happy and a lot of fun,
But when your broken up inside - people don't just leave - they run.
So next time you look in the mirror - tell me what do you see,
If you see someone reaching out - your probably looking at me.
