Analysis of SOLDIER'S TALE
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
If you've never been there
I'm not sure that you'll see
The smell of smoke in the air
And bullets flying right past me
And right then, in my darkest hour
God's Grace hits me with His power
I saw my friends fall down
And some won't ever rise again
Silent prayer, the bloody ground
Don't know if dry tears will end
But even as I fire my own gun
I heard God say, I'm with you my son
So much pain, I wish to forget
How can I ever make you see
The tears I couldn't let go yet
‘Cause the bullets were seeking me
See the enemy in my sights
There on so many different nights
Far in a foreign place I never knew
Got to fight on, only way to get out
I'm not sure words will ever show you
World's are shattered at a rifles shout
And as the rifles, at last silent fell
So did my tears, like from a hidden well
I guess my heart shattered that day
And sometimes my mind as well
But over time I relearned to pray
And so our story I'll try and tell
I can say, if you've never been there
Fall down and lift a thankful prayer

About this poem
War. It's the depths of mans evil and failure of community. Sometimes it's necessary to fight, even noble to fight, but there's nothing noble on any battlefield as men tear each other apart. Remember our price, paid for in the lives of the fallen and the soul's of the veterans. Our stares are of sights far beyond our ability to share,be thankful for that. For fallen friends
