The Goethals
The lights shimmered from the bridge
Ever so enticing, as if daring me to cross it
With hopes and promises my heart longed for years ago…
I still stare out my window, future is now present.
Wishing the lights held the same hope
Instead, a tear rolls down my cheek
And another crack forms in my heart,
Of things that could have been but things that will never be.
I long for the love that was on the other side of that bridge.
The lights that burn all night and all day with no one to notice, but I notice.
As I stare out my window and get ready for sleep
Another night, A cruel reminder of the love that once burned inside of me.
About this poem
The beautiful nostalgia of a love that hasn’t been quite felt since.
