Day Break

Gladys Shaw 1961 (Mississippi)

January 22

Into the night, I steal away.
I’ve survived another day
My friends, my enemies fade to dust.
To sleep, I can’t.  To dream, I must.
Travel to some place alone.  Far from reality, Far from home.  I’ll rule Kingdoms, Worlds I’ll make.
All before the next day breaks.

About this poem

How I feel every night when I go to sleep. I anticipate my dreams and how I’ll do so many things in them I can’t do in the real world.
