Epitaph

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

When my days are over
And this body is laid to rest,
I do not want lies spoken,
Just remember what is best.

If you want an epitaph,
Then just write on the stone:
That this man was a sinner,
But he did not die alone!

If a eulogy seems fitting,
Speak the truth and let it end;
And don’t forget to say that,
This man died for his own sin.

Say that God breathed into him,
The breath of life again;
And that he’s home with Jesus,
Where true life will never end!
