Pressure

So much has been sacrificed for me
So much has been invested in me
The expectations are high
The pressure is set to the max
Of that I’m all too aware

Success is the goal
A hard thing it is to achieve
But in time I will
In time I shall
In time I must

Heavy it is to bare
Heavy like a motor
But just like one
Propel me it shall
Propel me it must

Slowly I reinforce my boat
Sturdy it needs to be
It must withstand the waves
In this endless sea
Easy it is to sink

With my compass handy
Lost I shan't be
Who knows when I’ll reach land
But the further the better
My motor will last

The journey I do enjoy
Ports I pass by
But stop I mustn't
My goal is much bigger
Small islands don’t satisfy me

Home is home
Return I always can
And return I shall
But only once
The destination has been reached

Eager they await
My return is imminent
And a glorious one it must be
So much has been sacrificed for me
No pressure but pressure

About this poem

I wrote this to address the pressure I feel to succeed in life. For me, the pressure is a heavy burden but it also gives me strength. This poem explains that relation.
