Living To Be Blessed
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
No one living to be blessed,
In a capitalistic society based culture.
Where entitlements given are fed to feed,
A keeping up of appearances to appease...
The need to impress others.
Done to address the having of more.
And certainly not less than one can afford.
Even if this should mean,
Crediting our debts.
To later pay for at a time not to come yet.
No one living to be blessed,
In a capitalistic based culture...
To feel a passing of judgement,
On others should be their main priority to do.
When few if they choose to live,
As basic as possible.
Find it difficult even to do that.
To know it a fact on a daily basis,
Whatever the choice one chooses to make...
No one can escape from paying taxes.
Or...
Discover like the ones,
Who are rich and famous able to afford...
Lawyers to hire specifically to find,
Loopholes to avoid paying a dime.
Leaving them to wine and dine,
At the expense of others...
Pinching pennies trying their best,
To keep up pretensions known to impress...
Others like themselves,
That the only thing they own...
Although not openly expressed to confess,
Their inability to make...
Bankers, loan sharks and thieving deceivers,
Happy enough to believe...
That anyday to come soon,
They feel a lottery win is near their destiny!
'Uh...what?'
'My right hand has been itching for weeks.
And that tells me one thing.'
'And...
What is that?'
'That money I promised to pay you back?
Has my itch to tell me that soon it arrives.'
'And...
That leaves me to confess,
Repossessions I see...
As if clarevoyantly to me.
Are coming quicker in your future to believe!'
'Comeon.
Can't you spare and cut me some slack?'
'When had you last been,
In a rowboat crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
Using one oar.
And a hole appeared from nowhere.
At the bottom of that boat.
And you thought,
This to be a sign you were being rescued.
Found floating and protected,
By blood thirsty sharks.
Paying tribute to your heroics.'
'That would be a miracle to witness happen.'
'Exactly!
You may feel you are living to be blessed.
And I'm neither envious. Jealous...
Or mad at you.
But here,
From my point of view...
Money talks and B.S. walks.
However in your case,
A need to have money to make a dent...
In this bank to what you owe?
Is 'suggested' to prevent you from drowning.'
