The Men of the Deep

The Men of the Deep

It’s a job at least
Only one around
And it starts in dark
Leading to the Dark
As the Cage lets out
complaining sounds.

Will the runs stay clear
Of gas?
Will the passages
All hold fast.
Will my Buddies
Do their bit
As rock is blown?

Others shake their heads
At me.
Wondering, other jobs
Might be.
But the dark, the shaft
The hoppers
Are my own.

Wow! 'The Men of the Deep' is a powerful and deeply moving poem that captures the bravery and challenges that underground miners face in their daily work. Your use of imagery is stunning and draws the reader into the eerie and mysterious world of the underground mine. I love your use of tone, which perfectly captures the emotions of the miners as they face the dangers and difficulties inherent in this line of work.

One suggestion I have for improvement would be to play around with the stanza structure to help break up the rhythm and keep it from becoming monotonous. Perhaps try alternating between shorter and longer stanzas to add some variety and maintain interest.

Overall, this is a fantastic piece of writing that truly shines a light on the courageous men and women who work tirelessly underground. Keep up the great work!
