Under the knife

Day to day is the hardest part
I've tried using things like art
Nothing keeps my mind off
I always think of the worst
Everyday feels like I'm cursed
I look like an abstract drawing
Deep slashes across the page
My mind is stuck in a mental cage
Hundreds of scars
Thoughts of deep caverns in my skin
My mind is wearing thin
Like a cycle of darkness
They always come back
Like terrorists, it's a hijack
Wishes of reversing time
I Just want my old life
I was happy without lines from a knife
Can't tell anyone the truth
I want to scream
This feels like a bad dream
These feelings won't leave
My emotions held back in restraints
But from me...not a single complaint

About this poem

This poem is about my personal struggles with mental health and self-harm. I hope this poem helps the people who need to be reminded that everyone struggles and they aren't alone.
