My Prison Keep

What’s this! I know
Be it a Shelter though
What it is for sure, It is right here!
Thank God we arrived, before the blizzard Snow
But in a place, that’s quite odd, and queer
Because there’s no Town, that’s Far, or Near.
With accommodations, on a frozen lake,
On the Longest Day, of the Year.
I gave the Porter a hand to shake
This was a Monumental! and Colossal mistake,
He told us the floor is not to sweep,
Much like, the blizzard’s, Snowy Downy Flake
We prayed our prayers, of Light and Deep
To protect us, in our Prison Keep
And Now, all I have is time to sleep,
With more Time, to Sleep

About this poem

I wrote this poem on August 25, 2023 as part of a 6 week poetry workshop I attended. I had to take the last word of each line in another poem and tailor it to fit those words. It was quite fun.... I chose the poem by Robert Frost, "Wtopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening"

James Robert Pendleton

I have been writing poetry for over 35 years. I find it therapeutic to write a dedicated poem versus in a journal or diary. With the poem I can categorize my thoughts, feelings (hurts and what nots). By the end of the poem I will have worked through the issue at that time. more…
