Sweet Chaos

There was an old woman who lived in a house.
She didn't have a lot of kids, but she still felt wore out.
Stock in Band-aids she should have bought,
Kleenex too, because she used a lot!
Dolls, trucks, papers and crayons galore, no bare space could be seen on the floor.
Shoes needed tied and bib straps attached.
Lord help us all if they got hold of a match!
They jumped on the cushions and ran up the stairs,
Slid down the banister and pulled someone's hair.
They cried, they pouted, and they threw a fit.
They turned a deaf ear when told to sit.
She loved them to pieces though, especially at night.
When voices were silent, and eyes were shut tight.
She'd not trade them for anything, not money or gold,
They were her essence if the truth were told.
Someday they'd be gone, someday too soon.
No more picking up stuff, no "Goodnight Moon".
But they wouldn't be far, no sir, no way!
In her heart and soul, the sweet chaos would stay.

About this poem

I came from a large family. I had five brothers and three sisters. Needless to say, it was always chaotic at our house!
