Analysis of The Unexpected Third Wheel

There once was a woman I knew,
I was much older than her by a few.
She would flirt all the time,
Joking she will be mine,
Passed me her number, said "you know what to do".

I grinned as I looked in her eyes,
Your offer caught me by surprise.
Although I am flattered,
It’s the thought that matters—
But I won’t let this chance pass me by.

The look on her face said it all
She said " I like older men that are tall"
If you play your cards right,
Then by the end if the night,
You might just get to have it all.

I chuckled and gave her a grin,
A game like this - I know I would win.
But I’ll take it slow,
Let’s see how it goes,
For respect is where it all should begin.

We exchanged numbers to set up a date,
She smiled and said, "I can hardly wait."
I said, "Take your time,
Pick a look that's devine,
But for heaven's sake, please don't ever be late."

We were to meet by a quarter to nine.
I thought this would give her much time,
But as minutes ticked by,
I let out a sigh,
Hoping she’d still show up in her prime.

I arrived at the restaurant on time,
For our reservation was actually for nine.
I sat at the bar,
Hoping she doesn't live far,
And asked for a smooth glass of wine.

As I sipped, I began to pree
My eyes could not believe what they'd see.
There she sat, with a grin,
On a date with him -
What kind of fool does  she think I must be?

I sat my glass down gently with care.
Walked over holding my glare,
They were locked eye to eye,
The meal was lobster and ribeye,
With a parfait they both had to share.

She said,"let me explain"; " I said don't even bother"
All this time flirting and now there's another
She said," you got it all wrong",
Though he is handsome and strong,
This man is  actually my father".

I paused, feeling foolish and small,
My assumptions were not right at all.
“Your father, you say?”
I tried to stammer away,
She laughed, “are you mad at me Paul?"

I told him I’d met someone new,
He insisted on coming to view.
A protective old dad,
Who’s not really that bad—
I said, "Guess not since we're both wearing the same shoes.

What a relief as I pulled up a chair,
Her farther and I both  held a stare.
We both started to laugh
As I fell on my arse,
With my feet flying up in the air.
