The carrot and the stick
With the Carrot or Stick they say,
served with a side of 'social care'.
But the thing i think we're missing here is that;
We're all being led somewhere.
Where is it that we're going?
Is this my only choice?
Do I have a say in what I do?
Or will you silence my voice?
This is the greatest event of my lifetime,
I've never seen this before.
I need to read and understand just what life has in store.
This means I need to question,
...communicate,
... explain.
I need to meet you heart and mind,
as we sit amidst this rain.
I want to hear how you feel without a barrier of fear.
Tell me what you know about it,
I really want to hear.
Not with superficial, shallow thoughts,
But with attention and with meaning.
Let's explore together,
this most unique event,
with reason and with feeling.
Then together we can discuss it all,
Maybe find a light to shine.
To meet each other in that place,
where we can make everything alright.
I don't know where we're going, but I sure know where we've been.
I know the word is changing and that the reason can't be seen.
...and quite soon we'll have a choice to make, one made from pleasure or from pain.
But I need to know if there's another way for the ones who do abstain.
'It's My body, It's My choice' was once a maxim worth it's weight.
But now when I question what is coming, all I face are walls of hate.
Freedom is our default state; whether of body or of mind.
We're way more powerful than we think.
We're the whole history of mankind.
